J. Gorka Architect was built on a single operating principle: design decisions and construction outcomes must be held by the same mind. That structure is the practice.
The practice was established in 1987 after years of observing what happens when design teams hand projects to contractors who were never part of the design logic. Buildings get value-engineered into compromised versions of their intent.
Parametric modeling and BIM are not rendering tools in this studio. They are decision infrastructure — used to test structural options, resolve coordination conflicts, and produce fabrication-ready documentation.
Joanna received her professional degree in architecture from Silesian University of Technology in Poland and being a very detail-oriented person devoted her carrier to early stages of personal computing, operating systems and virtual environments. In 1987 Joanna co-founded J. Gorka Architect where she took on financial, scheduling and administrative side of the studio. In addition to her architectural background, Joanna brings over twenty years of Realtor / Broker experience invaluable in support of the decision-making process.
After earning his professional degrees in architecture, Jacek apprenticed with various architectural firms in Canada, Switzerland, and Germany. In 1987, Jacek and Joanna Gorka founded their architectural practice in Toronto. His expertise in visual arts, deep interest in the latest design tools, and advanced project delivery technologies, along with over forty years of hands-on experience, are highly valued by the firm clients. In addition to his practice, Jacek has contributed to the academic field as a Revit, AutoCAD and BIM instructor.
